Hand-Turned Pepper Mills

Each pepper mill is hand-turned by Richard Kent in Saskatoon, using premium and exotic hardwoods such as Macassar Ebony, Pheasant wood, Burmese padauk, stabilized Redwood, Curly Maple, Walnut and more. Every mill is unique. Once it is gone, there will never be another with the same grain or character.

Macassar Ebony Pepper Mill
from $275.00

Macassar ebony doesn’t need much help to look specialty, the wood does most of the talking. Deep brown-black streaks run through warm amber or caramel tones, giving this mill a naturally luxurious feel.

I kept the profile clean and elegant to let the wood show off: gentle curves, a slight waist for grip, and a solid base. In the hand it feels dense, smooth and substantial, the way a premium mill should.

Burmese Padauk Pepper Mill
$275.00

Burmese padauk brings serious color to the table, a deep orange-red that almost seems to glow from within, especially under warm kitchen lighting. Over time it slowly deepens to a rich reddish-brown while still holding a lot of character.

This mill is turned with a comfortable waist and gentle curves to show off the long grain lines. It’s the kind of piece that instantly brightens up a neutral kitchen.

First Image of 4 pepper mills are items numbered 1 thru 4. Number 2 & 3 are available while they last.

There is some black epoxy fill on the backside of the two taller pepper mills.

Second image of the single pepper mill is also available (11” long). #5

Pheasant Wood Pepper Mill - 7" Tall
$250.00

Pheasant wood is one of those species that hardly looks real. Bands of gold, caramel and chocolate running through the grain like feathers. This mill is turned from a particularly striking blank, with the grain flowing all the way around the body.

The profile is slim through the middle with a gentle flare at top and base, so it tucks comfortably into your hand and feels planted on the table. Finished to a soft sheen that brings out the color without feeling plasticky.

Box Elder + Epoxy Hybrid Pepper Mil - 9" Tall (Mill on the right)
$250.00

This mill started as a gnarly piece of box elder burl that was too interesting to cut around. I cast the voids in black tinted epoxy, then turned the blank into a flowing form where wood and resin twist together.

Light areas of creamy box elder contrast against darker pockets and the glassy epoxy, making this mill look different from every angle. The finish is smooth and tactile, so you’ll constantly find yourself turning it in your hands.
